Rabi offers school uniform grants to struggling families

Farming families feeling the squeeze because of the cost-of-living crisis may be eligible for help with school uniform costs from the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution (Rabi).

The charity has said it is aware that some families will be facing “unacceptable financial choices” in the run-up to the new school year, so it has launched a “return to school” grant to help cover the cost of uniforms, PE kit and other equipment.

Caron Whaley, director of services at Rabi, said almost 70% of parents across the UK were concerned about meeting the cost of return-to-school clothes and equipment.

The farming community had already been heavily affected by rapidly rising costs, so the added pressure of buying clothes and equipment for the new academic year could add significant stress.

“These financial worries can have a detrimental impact on the mental wellbeing of the entire family. We want to support farming people through this difficult time,” she said.

Grant applications can be made throughout July and August, with families asked to start the process by making a call to Rabi’s 24/7 helpline on 0800 188 4444.

Callers to the helpline will be put in contact with their local support manager, who will guide them through a short and simple application process.
