Support payments available for farmers using kerosene

Farm businesses which use high volumes of kerosene each year are eligible for payments of up to £5,800 through the government’s Non-Domestic Alternative Fuels Payments Scheme.

Top-up payments are available for households which have purchased more than 10,000 litres of kerosene in the past 12 months for use as heating oil.

Kerosene must have been used for heating a property to be eligible for the payments and cannot be claimed if it was instead used for transportation, electricity generation, or if it is sold on.

Payments will range from £750-£5,800, depending on the volume purchased.

The scheme will close to applications on 28 April 2023.

Households which use less than 10,000 litres may still be eligible for some support through the scheme, with a £150 fixed payment available for alternative fuel use.

Further support of £400 can also be accessed for farmhouses without a domestic electricity connection through alternative funding for the Energy Bills Support Scheme.

More information on the different schemes available to households can be found on the government website.
