Defra increases funding to £31m for farming equipment grants
The government has increased its funding from £17m to £31m for the latest round of productivity and slurry grants, as part of Defra’s Farming Equipment and Technology Fund (FETF).
High demand from farm businesses encouraged Defra to increase its offering and more than 3,000 applicants are set to receive grants.
The scheme closed to applications on 4 April and successful applicants are expected to receive funding in the coming months.

Grants were available for more than 90 pieces of equipment, including direct drills and rainwater harvesting tanks.
The equipment available through the fund is designed to help farmers improve the environment by reducing waste, inputs and emissions.
Defra secretary Therese Coffey said: “The tremendous interest shown in the FETF 2023 productivity and slurry grants underscores the determination of our farmers to drive ever more productive and sustainable farming practices to keep food on our plates while protecting our important landscapes and habitats.
“By empowering farms to invest cash in new kit, we are ensuring our farmers, growers and foresters have the equipment they need to embrace innovation, protect the environment and contribute to a thriving and sustainable agricultural sector.”
Animal health and welfare
A second scheme included in the Farming Equipment and Technology Fund is the Animal Health and Welfare grant, with applications open until 15 June.
This scheme provides funding for farming equipment such as creep feeders, cow mattresses and livestock handling systems.
