Defra has extended the deadline for applications to be part of the Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) scheme pilot.
More than 2,000 farmers expressed an interest in joining the pilot and now have until 30 September to make their full applications.
The SFI is one of three schemes being developed under the Environmental Land Management initiative and offers a wide range of standards, including arable and grassland soils, water buffering, hedgerows and woodland.

The other two schemes are Local Nature Recovery and Landscape Recovery.
The full scheme will launch in 2022, initially for farmers in England who currently get payments under the Basic Payment Scheme.
