The UK’s largest independent dairy, Meadow Foods, has raised standard A litre milk prices by 2.25p/litre from 1 December.

The increase takes A prices to 24.4p/litre, with B prices for November also rising by 2p/litre to 32p/litre from 1 November, 2p/litre higher than previously estimated.

Meadow Foods’ 550 producers are experiencing their sixth consecutive rise, taking prices 7.4p/litre higher than when markets bottomed out in July.

“These recent increases reflect our policy of returning any milk price improvements as quickly as possible to our producers,” said Meadow Foods executive chairman Simon Chantler.

“We will continue to watch the market closely and hope to continue to move our price forward as soon as we can.”

Meadow Foods has about 550 suppliers across the north of England, the Midlands and north and west Wales, and is the UK’s largest independent dairy.

In September the firm announced that it had received a significant strategic investment from US private equity firm Paine & Partners.
