Dutch food company breakthrough improves lab-grown ‘meat’ efficiency
Dutch food company Meatable has developed a new way to produce cultivated pork products – lab-grown meat – in just eight days.
The product is created by isolating a single animal cell, and then replicating it using advanced technology and stem cells.
The stem cells are then differentiated into muscle and fat cells to create the end product.

Products are expected to be ready for consumers to try next year and then sold at retail by 2025.
The company is now scaling up production and intends to compete at a similar price point to traditional meat products.
“We’ve now demonstrated that we have the world’s most efficient process, which is required if we are to create products that compete with the low prices of conventional meat,” said Meatable chief executive and co-founder Krijn de Nood.
Mr de Nood said that by developing a continuous production process, cell densities of 80m cells/ml, and a differentiation time of only a few days, the company was able to create affordable cultivated meat at scale.
