Large arable farm tenancies coming soon in Bucks and Lincs

A 10-year fixed-term farm business tenancy (FBT) on more than 900 acres of arable land is about to be marketed for the trustees of Hampden Settlement Estate in Buckinghamshire.

The land is being offered in two lots, with the landlord keen to foster sound environment-friendly estate management and stewardship.

Letting agent Carter Jonas says the successful tenant(s) will need to deliver a balance between environmental benefit and financially viable farming.

It adds that the landlord wants engagement by the tenant(s) with ELM schemes, in consultation with the landlord.

The two lots cover 914 acres near Great Missenden on mainly grade 3 land with some grade 2 on lower areas, with loamy, freely draining, slightly acid but base rich soils, also slightly acid loamy and clayey soils with impeded drainage.

It is predominantly down to arable crops, with small areas of permanent pasture, and is being let from Michaelmas 2023.

There is a grain store and a large range of concrete-floored general storage buildings.

Shooting and timber rights are reserved to the landlord, who wants the tenant to work closely with them to promote the area by creating permissive paths, where appropriate.

There is no accommodation available at the holding but the estate has significant other property in the area, some of which may be available to rent.

Lettings process

The land will be let in a two-stage process, first by submission of the tender form. Shortlisted applicants may then be asked to submit a more detailed management plan, including financial information and details of their existing farming enterprise, and then to attend an interview.

Viewings are by appointment on 17 May and 24 May, through Carter Jonas.

Lincolnshire FBT

The same agent has just over 600 acres of grade 2 and 3 land to let at Pointon House Farm, Pointon in Lincolnshire.

The productive arable and pasture land has a range of traditional and modern buildings with grain storage and is to be let in three lots from 11 October.

Two of the lots are land only – one of about 273 acres, the other 334 acres – both with good road access, and are available on a three-year fixed term.

The farm buildings make up the third lot, to let for one year.
