Aberdeenshire woodlands on market in five lots

The recent launch in Aberdeenshire of just over 401 acres in five lots adds to the choice for woodland and forestry buyers.

With an overall guide price of offers of more than £1.12m, the Drum Estate Woodlands near Drumoak have diverse potential, from timber production to recreational use.

They are on the market with Goldcrest Land and Forestry Group in five lots.

The first, Keith’s Muir, has almost 49 acres in three blocks, for offers of more than £220,000. This has a small portion of commercial conifers, some of which will be ready to harvest in about 10 years.

The remainder is mixed broadleaves, with a good range of biodiversity and wildlife.

At 138 acres, Coldstream Plantation is the largest and is on the market for offers above £350,000.

This was early clear-felled following Storm Arwin, and the buyer will be responsible for restocking with Scots pine, Norway spruce, hybrid larch and open ground.

The soils can produce high-quality timber and the next rotation is expected to benefit from improved ground conditions.

Quartains Woods, at offers above £125,000, has almost 64 acres in three compact blocks of mid-rotation pine woodlands, with some broadleaves, on level, fertile ground.

One of these is ready for harvesting, with the next rotation to be predominantly Sitka spruce.

The remaining lots – Castle Woods (98 acres) and Old Manse Woods (52.6 acres) are guided at offers of more than £300,000 and £125,000, respectively.
