Farmers owed thousands by online retailer Farmison

More than 100 businesses are owed money by online meat retailer and butcher Farmison & Co, with in excess of £7m outstanding to unsecured creditors, according to the administrators report.

Farmison first went into administration and ceased trading in April, before being purchased for an undisclosed sum by a consortium of buyers and recommencing trading.

Many of the businesses are small local suppliers and farm businesses based in the north of England, some of which are owed more than £10,000.

It is unlikely that all of these losses will be repaid, despite the company being bought out and continuing to trade.

Yorkshire pig farmer and meat wholesaler Anna Longthorp, who runs Anna’s Happy Trotters, was left with £11,500 owed to her business by Farmison following its initial collapse, according to the report.

Ms Longthorp told Farmers Weekly that it had been a massive blow, but to the credit of some of the employees at the new Farmison business, they had been very straight with her and were continuing to work with her to recover those losses.

“They are paying on a pro-forma basis and are paying an increased price, so that every order is paying off some of the historic debts,” she added.

About 75 employees were made redundant when the company went into administration, however many of these employees have now been re-employed following the buyout.
