Competition for stores and sucklers at Llandovery

Store cattle met a good trade at Friday’s (16 September) sale, with 272 head going under the hammer.
A 595kg Limousin cross steer claimed the top price of £1,195, with all steers averaging 185.07p/kg. Heifers averaged 175.86p/kg, and sold to £1,035 for a 535kg British Blue cross, while bulls sold to £820 for a 440kg Limousin cross, and settled at 174p/kg.
“Prices were a shade up on last month, with a few more farmers competing around the ring,” said auctioneer Derfel Harries. “The suckler cow trade was well up, with a lot of good-quality older cows forward and confidence filtering through from the store trade.”
Cows with bull calves averaged £1,249, with heifer calves and cows averaging £1,175.
