NSA launches scheme to link graziers with arable farmers

A new platform has been launched linking sheep farmers across the UK with grazing on arable enterprises.

The National Sheep Association (NSA) has partnered with crop specialists Niab to create the Graziers List and hopes the service will provide a mutual benefit for both sheep and arable businesses.

It is designed to highlight the benefits of grazing cover crops and sheep being included in regenerative arable rotations.

Farmers are able to list their flocks and available land on an interactive map hosted on the NSA website and then get in touch with other farming enterprises to discuss opportunities.

The service is free for NSA members and landowners offering grazing, however other sheep farmers are still encouraged to enquire with the NSA to find out more information.

NSA project manager Nicola Noble says: “NSA is delighted to offer this matchmaking service for sheep and arable farmers.

“Previously agreements for grazing have been made possible thanks to existing relationships with friends, family and other contacts.

“But with increasing integration of sheep into arable rotations, there is now a growing need for a more formal service that is able to connect farmers allowing mutual benefit to be achieved.”

The platform is being supported by independent beef and sheep consultant, Liz Genever, who previously founded Carbon Dating, a website connecting arable with livestock farmers.
