Toddler dies after accident on Devon farm

A toddler has died in an accident on a farm in Devon – the second tragedy in the area in two months.

Devon and Cornwall Police confirmed on Thursday 21 June a two-year-old girl died last Friday evening on farmland in the Lifton area of west Devon.

A force spokesperson said: “Police were called at 7pm on Friday 16 June to farmland in the area of Lifton in west Devon.

“A two-year-old girl was pronounced deceased at the scene. Her next of kin have been informed.

“The Health and Safety Executive [HSE] have been notified.

“The death is currently being treated as unexplained and enquiries remain ongoing on behalf of HM Coroner.”

Last month, another toddler died in a collision with a tractor on a farm.

Police were called to the farm in the Buckland Brewer area of north Devon on Saturday 13 May.

The child, from the Holsworthy area of Devon, died at the scene.

Devon and Cornwall Police said there were no suspicious circumstances and the coroner had been informed.

The HSE is also investigating this tragic accident.

The sex and name of the child, who was under the age of two, have not been revealed.
