John Deere shows new tractors, combines and balers

New transmission option and more power for 7R and 8R

The new 7R Series gets more power and a new range-topper – the 7310R. This will be the first Deere to have a Stage IV engine and both EGR + SCR technology and it goes into production in April.

All other 7R Series tractors will remain powered by Deere’s Stage IIIB engines until these run out, according to Deere’s vice-president of sales and marketing Christoph Wigger.

Instead of the previous 9-litre block and thanks to engine tweaking, the 7210R and 7230R will now be powered by a 6.8-litre engine that boosts up to 240 and 260hp respectively.

The four larger models, the 7250R, 7270R, 7290R and new 7310R models are powered the same 9-litre engine that also features in the 8R Series. Fitted with a dual turbocharger, this powerplant now provides an average boost of 22hp on the 7290R and 30hp on all other models during transport and pto modes.

New e23 transmission

All models are available with AutoPowr, and the two smaller tractors are also available with CommandQuad. Interestingly, both 7R and 8R tractors will also be available with Deere’s new, fully automatic e23 transmission.

With 23 equally spaced powershift gears, and 12 gears between 2.5 and 16km/h (1.6 and 10mph), operators can match the speed to the job, claims Deere. Efficiency Manager, passed down from 9R models, allows operators to preset the working speed and the engine then maintains that speed by automatically shifting up and throttling back.

As well as new transmission and engine specifications, both 7R and 8R get an all-new cooling package with redesigned airflow distribution and increased capacity. This new feature is said by Deere to add a 2% efficiency gain for both model ranges.

The new CommandView cab is said to be less noisy thanks to cooling package changes and a laminated windscreen that reduces noise by 2dB. A fridge, side wipers and blind, plus 40deg seat should make this an ideal contractors’ machine.

The 7R also gets a new CommandArm, with what Deere reckons is a more intuitive layout, as well as a new CommandCentre with either a seven or 10in display.

8R series overhauled

The 8R and 8RT Series also get an overhaul. All five R models now have increased horsepower, delivering 270, 295, 320, 345 and 370hp apiece. Tracked 8RT models will be rated at 320, 345 and 370hp. All models have boosts of 30hp.

In common with the new 7R Series, the new e23 transmission will be available throughout the range, as well as AutoPowr and a 16-speed powershift for the 8270R, 8295R and 8320R.

Cab options follow those of the updated 7R, with a new CommandArm console and display with integrated joystick. All 8Rs will also be available with optional large 215cm in diameter and 900mm in section width.

Compact new 6R models

6RC-with-loader

Three new compact models join both the 6MC and 6RC line-up. Built in Mannheim, these models are designed for medium-sized livestock, mixed and arable farms.

Available with PowrQuad Plus transmissions and powered by a 4.5-litre four-cylinder PowerTech engine, the three MC models range from 90-110hp. The full frame design is perfect for factory-fitted loaders, say Deere, and each is available with either a 65- or 85-litre pump.

The 6090, 6100 and 6110RC models offer a premium-spec compact tractor option. The main difference between the MC and RC models is that RC models gain a 10hp boost over the MC models.

Powered by the same 4.5-litre Stage IIIB engine as the MC, the RC is available with three transmission options, the PowrQuad Plus, AutoQuad Plus and the AutoQuad Plus Ecoshift, the latter automatically reducing engine rpm during transport.

The pressure and flow compensated hydraulic system offers up to 114 litres/min with 37 litres/min available separately for implement operation. Front pto and hitch are also available.

Small and medium-sized tractors

JD5075E

Deere says it now has 27 new models in the 80-120hp bracket. The new offering starts with the 5E 2.9-litre three-cylinder which gains a new transmission and a wet clutch, explains John Deere marketing manager Gordon Day.

The 55, 65 and 75hp models will now be available with a 12×12 power reverser as well as the original 9×3 synchronised transmission, which gives a wider selection of gears for different applications. Lift capacity is 1,800kg.

The 4.5-litre four-cylinder 5E is a new offering from Deere, enabling it to meet Stage IIIB emissions with the addition of a PowerTech high-pressure common rail engine.

Again, two transmission options will be available for both the 5085E and the 5095E – a 12×12 power reverser topping out at 35kph and a 24×12-speed power reverser with 40kph top speed. These 85hp and 95hp models have a lift capacity of 2,400kg and a pump capacity of 80 litres/min.

JD5100M

The new 5M series, which is currently built in the Mannheim factory is now to be produced in Augusta, Georgia. This four-model range spans the 75-115hp bracket, with the 5075M being fitted with a 2.9-litre PowerTech engine and the 5085M, 5100M and 5115M powered instead by a 4.5-litre PowerTech block.

With an overall height of 2.48m even on 28in tyres, these tractors are aimed at livestock farms. The new model uses 11% less fuel than the previous one, says Mark James, product sales specialist for tractors and loaders.

Transmissions include a 16/16-speed unit with either a synchronised or power reverser and a 32/16-speed transmission with power reverser and electrohydraulic HiLo functionality.

Combines + headers

V600-header

Available in widths from 6.7m to 12.2m, the 600X header can extend by up to 500mm and has six height sensors to keep it level. Equipped as standard with a rape knife, the header apparently takes eight minutes to convert between crops.

W series combine

Also launched at the event, although not available in the UK until 2015, is the W440 six-walker combine. Aimed at farmers with around 250ha, this combine will be made by Finnish company Sampo Rosenlew under a marketing agreement, says Deere. The 238hp combine will be equipped with a 6,500-litre grain tank, and will have a straw walker area of 6.3sq m.

New mower conditioner

6MC_6110MC_MoCo

Replacing the existing 500 and 700 Series trailed mowers for the 2014 season will be the 600 side-pull and the 800 centre-pivot mower conditioners available in 3m and 3.5m working widths. Big changes have been made to improve output, says Deere, and the conditioning unit now has a new hood as well as fixed heavy-duty pre-loaded tine that increases throughput and capacity. Coupled with the parallelogram design of the conditioning hood, the correct conditioning is achieved at whatever setting, says Ian Clarke, responsible for forage machinery in UK and Ireland.

New baler

C440R-Baler-with-6R_6120R_C

Designed for farmers and contractors handling up to 3000 4ft by 4ft bales of hay, straw or silage each season, the new F440 replaces the previous 623 model, and is available in both a mid- and premium-spec. Built in Deere’s Arc les Grey factory, the new models get the same feeding system as the high spec 900 Series baler. The M has a four-tine pickup while the R model gains one more. Both get a new driveline and rotor, stronger shielding and wider tyres. A new C440R combination wrapper baler completes the range.
