Midlands farmers wanted to invest in Camgrain

Camgrain is looking for Midlands farmers to invest in its new advanced processing centre in Kettering.

Building work is now well under way at the Northants APC, with the aim to have the plant operational by harvest.

Currently Camgrain has 50 investors at the site, with another 20-25 being sought before harvest and another 200 after.

Investment costs £115/t over a six-year period. Of this, £40 is paid up front and there is also an annual operating charge of about £10/t, which includes transport from the farm, but not drying.

“There are no outside shareholders to please and we’re aiming to capture the value in the supply chain, keeping investment costs down,” said Rob Sanderson, head of central store development at Openfield.
