Above-average yields at Lodge Farm
Caley Sackur is combining wheat today (23 August) at Lodge Farm, Tibthorpe, Yorkshire, and is pleased with above average yields.
“It’s going very well – the weather has opened up this week and we’ve cut about two-thirds of our wheat so far,” he said. “After today we’ll just have 80ha of Santiago left to cut.”
Cordiale second wheat had averaged about 9.9t/ha, with Gallant first wheat coming off at 10.5t/ha.
“We’re having a good harvest – moistures have been good, too, with wheat coming off at 15.5-18.5%, barley at 17% and rapeseed at 8-8.5%,” said Mr Sackur.
Venture winter barley yielded 8.2t/ha, with early-drilled Extrovert oilseed rape producing 4.2t/ha.
“I’m pretty happy – we should finish the Gallant today and with a bit of luck we might finish harvest in August.”
