Small farm market heats up
Several opportunities for farmers to expand their acreage are expected to stir up plenty of interest in the next few weeks.
Nether Hilton Farm, a mixed grass and arable farm near Huntly, Aberdeenshire, runs to almost 246 acres and is available for offers over £750,000.
It is also lotted three ways. Most of the land is in lot 2, which has 130 acres of arable and 51 acres of grassland and rough grazing, plus 38 acres of woodland, for offers over £460,000.
The remaining two lots consist of a traditional farm steading and two modern buildings for offers over £50,000 and three-bedroomed farmhouse plus 20 acres for offers over £240,000. (CKD Galbraith 01343 546 362/John Clegg & Co 0131 229 8800)
Cuckoo Farm, at Ridge Lane, Lancashire, is likely to appeal to a farmer looking to set up an additional livestock enterprise.
It has 195 acres of mainly Grade 3 arable and pasture set in a ring fence and several modern steel portal-frame buildings formerly used as a dairy unit. The farm is located on the edge of Lancaster and has a guide price of £1.5m. (Armistead Barnett 01995 603 180)
A 96-acre block of accessible pasture and arable ground is for sale in west Devon. The land, at St Giles on the Heath near Launceston, is predominantly south facing and well fenced.
Agent Andrew Ranson of Stags says substantial blocks close to a main road were relatively rare in the area. “It should appeal to people further afield as well as those nearby.” The guide price is £720,000. (Stags 01566 774 999)
Just over 32 acres of Grade 1 and 2 bare land growing cereals and sugar beet is available near Wisbech St Mary, Cambridgeshire, as a whole for £262,500 or in up to three lots. (Brown & Co 01553 770 771)
