Asda takes top prize at the British Turkey Awards 2012
Asda was the biggest winner at the annual British Turkey Awards, taking the top accolade, Retailer of the Year.
Judges said that, although all supermarkets shortlisted stocked a good range of turkey products, it was Asda’s “fantastic range to suit all seasons” and innovative meals on offer that won them the top award for the third year running.
The supermarket also won best meal solution for its chilli burgers and best Christmas traditional product for its basted whole turkey.
TV personalities Jamie Oliver and Jimmy Doherty picked up separate awards for best Christmas convenience product and best Christmas premium product respectively.
Dinner was prepared by student chefs, who had won the chance to cook at the Savoy by creating innovative turkey-based dishes.
Nicola Rye, chair of the British Turkey publicity and marketing committee, said turkey consumption was increasing, and this was down to the quality and range of products available in the UK, and the “essential support” retailers provide.
