Yorkshire harvest been stop/start

Caley Sackur from Lodge Farm in Yorkshire said harvest has been very stop/start but he is down to the last 40ha of 260ha.

Yields and quality have been very good, with Malacca and Einstein averaging 10 – 11.25t/ha with Hagbergs of 300. Protein has been very variable at 11 – 14%. Hereward protein was “superb” at 14%, but he said it possibly had the lowest yields at 10t/ha.

Mr Sackur said difficult weather in meant it was a very expensive harvest as most of the crop needed drying. But he said crops were still standing and yields were better than last year.

He plans to continue growing Malacca and Einstein next season but will drop Hereward as it yielded over 1t/ha less.
