Wheat disappoints on Essex/Herts border

Wheat yields were down this year for Charles Carter on Harps Farm in Hallingbury, on Essex/Herts border. Claire, Malacca and Hereward were all caught by the dry weather, so he was disappointed by the crop not yielding 10t/ha.

He said the Hagbergs and protein were good and it was a “lovely looking” crop, although screenings were high and yields were low.

But Canberra, Winner and Pollen oilseed rape yields were all good at 3.75t/ha. He was pleased with the quality and found Canberra was the easiest to combine.
