The AHDB has developed a new online Recommended List tool to make selecting varieties to specific situations more straightforward.
The interactive application is initially available for winter wheat, following responses to feedback from the most recent review of the cereals and oilseeds Recommended List (RL).
The interactive tables feature filters to help users identify varieties that meet their market, quality, yield, disease resistance and agronomic characteristics.

Later this year, the interactive tool will be rolled out to other major crops including spring barley, winter barley, spring oats, winter oats and winter oilseed rape.
Kathryn Hales, RL development manager at the AHDB, explains how the variety data presentation during the latest RL review has been updated.
“Simple and intuitive to use, the new RL interactive tool is likely to have a broad appeal.
“We hope that it will provide a stepping stone between the static tables and the feature-packed variety selection tool.”
The tool can be accessed on the AHDB website and is based on RL 2025-26 data.

The new tool allows users to:
- Select varieties for specific end-use markets
- Specify the minimum requirements for fungicide-treated yield
- Identify varieties with resistance to specific pests, diseases and lodging
- Find varieties based on ripening and quality data.
The tool also allows for a side-by-side comparison of varieties and the export of results, which can be analysed further in a spreadsheet and printed.
The Recommended List app has now been updated, as well as the Recommended List variety selection tool for winter wheat (with updates for other crops rolling out shortly).
