NFU seeks new Horticulture and Potatoes Board members

The NFU is looking for proactive members to join its Horticulture and Potatoes Board to help shape future policies and represent industry members.

With many growers in the sector hit by inflationary pressures, the initiative hopes to focus on supply chain fairness, import controls, labour access and securing future productivity funding.

The board currently has seven positions up for renewal, plus up to an additional three co-options. The deadline for applicants is Sunday 18 February 2024.

How do I apply?

Nominations may only be received from full NFU farmer and grower members or those employed to represent a business that is a full NFU farmer and grower member.

Members interested in applying must submit:

  1. A covering letter, setting out the reasons for applying to the board
  2. A description of relevant sector experience and skills; either included within the covering letter or as a separate CV
  3. A completed nomination form (Word doc), with the signatures and corresponding membership numbers from at least 10 other NFU farmer and grower members – it is important that these be horticulture or potato grower members.

Nominations that do not include all three may be discounted.

Both board members and co-opted members can serve a two-year term of office and members can then stand for reappointment. The board consists of 13 appointed members, including an elected chairman and vice-chairman, plus up to four co-options.

The first board meeting that members will be expected to attend is 20 March 2024, held in person at the NFU headquarters in Warwickshire.
