Finishing up at Rock Farms
Carl Tuer is combining the last strip of winter wheat at Rock Farms, Alnwick, Northumberland, today (10 September).
“It’s been a very good harvest – we are absolutely delighted with yields.”
First wheat averaged almost 11.1t/ha (4.5t/acre), with some Viscount producing over 12.3t/ha (5t/acre).
Second wheats came in at 10t/ha (4t/acre), with continuous wheat at 8.9-9.1t/ha (3.6-3.7t/acre).
“We used Latitude seed dressing for take all in the second wheat, and we’ve seen a big jump in performance – I’ll definitely be using it again.”
Publican spring barley was slightly disappointing, at 6.2t/ha (2.5t/acre), but looked a nice sample, he said.
And Catana, Excalibur and Flash oilseed rape, some of which was late sown, averaged 3.7t/ha (1.5t/acre). “We’re pretty pleased with that.”
Mr Tuer had finished sowing oilseed rape, and had also drilled 200ha (500 acres) of wheat.
We’re about 50% through our drilling, and it’s all gone into excellent conditions. I’m very happy.”
