Extra combine tyres to get Lincs osr in
Mark Fixter (F W Fixter + Son) of Bridge Farm, Boston, Lincolnshire was unable to begin any combining due to saturated fields.
“We’re fitting extra tyres to combine, but if that doesn’t work then we’re stuck.”
He wanted to harvest his Apex and Castille oilseed rape, as they were shedding seed, and the sample he tested last Tuesday (24 July) came in at a pleasing 10% moisture. He also expected yields to be ok, provided he could get crops in time.
But, “it’s just too wet to do any today,” he said.
His winter barley was wet and lodged, but had not sprouted yet. He also had Zebedee winter wheat which he thought looked better than his Einstein.
Progress on the heavy land farm would be rain dependant, he said: “if forecasts predict good weather conditions, we’ll go for it”.
