Rained off in Devon
Harvest is tentatively underway in parts of Devon, but rain is likely to keep combines under wraps this week.
“We’ve had 500t of winter barley and 50t of oilseed rape in from just two farms so far,” said Devon Grain’s store manager Duncan Lyon.
“It’s very early days and is not likely to be indicative of the whole harvest. The crops were from light land on the coast, and the farmers thought yields were slightly up.”
Harvest started last week (w/e 15 July), which was not particularly early, said Mr Lyon.
“With the wet weather we’re having it could be a late harvest if anything.”
