New ley mix offers extended grazing

A new ley mixture featuring Timothy grass could have the potential to offer producers extended grazing, increased palatability and early season growth.

Limagrain‘s new mix contains Timothy grass alongside Matrix Enhanced Ryegrass – a festulolium with the ability to start growing at lower temperatures than perennial ryegrasses – it has been specifically bred for rotational grazing systems.

Timothy also starts growing earlier in the season than ryegrasses and so makes a good companion grass for Matrix. It’s very palatable and also very hardy and will grow well even in heavy clay soils, said Limagrain’s Ian Misselbrook.

“This new mixture contains 40% Matrix, 15% Timothy, 35% late perennial tetraploid ryegrasses and 10% white clover.”
