Late harvest in Angus

Spring barley harvest is about 10-15% through in the Angus area, according to Trevor Harriman at Scotgrain.

“It’s rather patchy, but there’s probably more cut in Angus than elsewhere. The quality is fine, but yields are light, as we had expected for the early crops.”

Harvest was later than expected, and farmers still had most of their oilseed rape to cut in the region, he said.

“People have now started on wheat and oats. Nothing has come to harm in the rain because it’s only just fit.”

Nitrogen contents were generally low, and malting barley was all usable so far, he added.
