Spring wheat next for Brian Mummery
Brian Mummery is two thirds of the way through harvest at Great Pett Farm, Canterbury, Kent, with just spring wheat left to cut.
“The Paragon wheat looks okay – it will be ready next week.”
Sakura marrowfat peas had yielded 4t/ha (1.6t/acre). “The quality was pretty good and I got the tonnage I was contracted for.”
Mascani oats came in at 7t/ha (2.8t/acre). “They were a nice colour but were low on bushelweight, at about 45kg/hl.”
Heavy showers had held up harvest in the area, said Mr Mummery. “There are quite a few peas and a lot of wheat left to cut, but most people are probably half to two-thirds through.
“When it rains it’s very hard, and some of the peas are going a bit black, but generally quality looks alright, although yields are a bit down.”
