Average yields at Ashby Ledger

Joe Scott is two-thirds of the way through harvest at Ashby Ledger Farms, Rugby, Warwickshire, and yields have been about average.

So far he had cut 324ha (800 acres) of Solstice, which was yielding 8.8t/ha (3.6t/acre) and was nice milling quality.

“Most of it is having to be dried as it comes in. It’s too wet to be combining today (20 August), but we have drilled 150ha (370 acres) of oilseed rape now.”

Mr Scott had also cut 200ha (500 acres) of oilseed rape. “That came in quite well, at 3.9t/ha (1.6t/acre). We had Castille, Cabernet and Dimension, and the Dimension was the best.”

Some farmers in the area still had oilseed rape to combine, and not much had been drilled.

However, the remaining 188ha (465 acres) of wheat looked well, he added. “Five or six dry days and we would be nearly finished.”
