UK turkey giant expands

Britain’s largest turkey producers, Bernard Matthews Farms, has acquired Lincolnshire company Lincs Turkeys, which focuses on free range and fresh turkey products.

The addition of Lincs to the Bernard Matthews stable will increase its production capacity above 8m birds a year.

“Lincs Turkeys brings additional skills and expertise to the group, which will enhance and support our long-term growth plans,” UK managing director of Bernard Matthews, Jeff Halliwell said.

“It will allow us to expand our offering in the fresh and free-range turkey markets as we continue to promote the health benefits of turkey.”

Lincs Turkeys sells whole turkeys and cuts of meat to retailers, foodservice companies and food manufacturers, producing about 1m birds a year, of which 350,000 are free range.

Managing director John Martin said he was excited at the prospect of joining forces.

“Lincs Turkeys and Bernard Matthews are an excellent strategic fit and by combining our inherent strengths we will be able to develop a stronger business,” Mr Martin said.

“Our joint knowledge and turkey expertise will enable us to better capitalise on the opportunities ahead and drive turkey consumption in the UK all year round.”

Lincs Turkeys will continue using its name and brand, with no significant changes to the operations currently planned.
