Police launch murder enquiry after farmer killed trying to stop Land Rover thieves

A MURDER ENQUIRY has been launched after a farmer was killed as he tried to stop thieves from stealing his Land Rover from his farm near Rugby.

The farmer has been named by police as 61-year old Michael Boffey of Featherbed Lane, Withybrook.

The incident happened on Saturday morning (Aug 20) shortly after 11am.

Mr Boffey was found with serious head injuries on the road and despite the attendance of paramedics he died at the scene, Warwickshire Police has confirmed.

The two-year old green Land Rover Defender was later found abandoned in the car park of a church in Wolvey.

Detective chief inspector Sarah Goodall, who is leading the investigation, said Mr Boffey had become the victim of a “callous attack” which had resulted in his death.

“We are appealing for help from the public to establish the events which lead to his death. We want to make the perpetrators aware of the full extent of what they have done,” she said.
