Massey unveils four new tractor models

Having first appeared in mid-2011, Massey Ferguson’s 7600 series now encompasses the company’s entire mid-to-high horsepower range. The eight models cover the key 140hp-235hp power range across Europe. The change has seen the 7600 range absorb some of Massey’s best selling tractors – the 5400, popular 6400 and the larger 7400 series.

The latest machines to be added to the 7600 series are the Beauvais-built 140-175hp tractors, which were unveiled at TechAgro show in Brno, Czech Republic.

Spec-wise there is plenty to choose from. In fact, with an options file longer than a family of five’s shopping list, you need to put aside a bit of time if you want to delve deeply into all the various choices.

Engine

There are few selection worries when it comes to the engine, though. Massey has plumped for an old favourite – the 6.6-litre Sisu from Agco sibling Valtra. Now in its fourth generation, the engine is coupled to an SCR emissions control system and maintenance-free DOC.

That means there’s a blue-topped filler spout from the 30-litre AdBlue tank poking out from behind a 305-litre diesel tank to protect it from the perils of northern European temperatures.

One handy change has seen service interval improved to 500 hours. Those extra 100 hours can equate to as much as a 27% maintenance cost saving, according to Massey Ferguson brand specialist Campbell Scott.

Transmission

Here’s where the decision-making begins. There’s a choice of three transmissions for the new series – Dyna-4, Dyna-6 or Dyna-VT. The choice comes down to whether you prefer the infinite transmission ratios of the CVT from Fendt, or a Massey-built semi-powershift option which has a power boost of up to 25hp.

Massey says that makes the Dyna-4 and 6 ideal for hauling duties and heavy cultivations, with power boost available from gear 2D and above 6kph.

Meanwhile, the Fendt-derived Dyna-VT continuous variable transmission is kitted out with Massey controls. In its VT guise it has three drive settings – pedal, stick and pto mode.

  MF 7614 (140hp)  Dyna-4
 MF 7615 (150hp)  Dyna-4, Dyna-6 ECO or Dyna-VT
 MF 7616 (160hp)  Dyna-6 ECO or Dyna-VT
 MF 7618 (175hp)  Dyna-6 ECO or Dyna-VT

 Cab

The new cab is still distinctly Massey. It has all the features of the larger models – curved lines and a bulging front windscreen give it a slightly racy look. Massey has kept the six-post style which means the sweat-relieving rear side windows can always be called upon should the air-conditioning gives up the ghost.

Spec

Just to add to the decision-making there’s the choice of three spec levels and four armrests (as well as the usual choice of add-ons). As you might expect, the “Essential” spec is at the more basic end of things. There are mechanical spools and with no sign of any auto-guide, speedsteer and Isobus it sounds gloriously simple.

The mid-ranger is the plusher-sounding “Efficient” with the new armrest controls. While for those looking for all the bells and whistles there is the glamorously-named “Exclusive”. It has Massey’s new armrest, multifunction joystick and adjustable cab suspension. There is also the option of speedsteer which allows the operator to adjust the steering ratio for sharper headland turns.

While it has all the gear, those wanting a digitally simple life (or looking for something that doesn’t require too much digital dexterity) can set the on-board electronics to basic – rather than advanced – mode.

The new range also heralds the introduction of a new 7618 model. This 175hp machine is almost 1t lighter than its competitors, so it’s ideal for transport and lighter cultivation work.
