Pink bales are continuing to emerge in silage fields up and down the country – and pictures of them are arriving in our pink bales picture gallery.

The special bale wrap has been produced as part of a charity initiative, with Breakthrough Breast Cancer and the Breast Cancer Campaign getting a donation for every roll of wrap sold.

Farmers in Ireland are also taking part in a separate campaign involving the Irish Cancer Society.

Jeanie Everington from Volac, which has launched the pink wrap in the UK, said a limited amount had been made available to merchants.

“Since many women work within agriculture, we wanted to raise awareness of breast cancer in the countryside and what better way to visualise it than with pink bales in the fields?”

Mrs Everington said she had been delighted by people’s enthusiasm for the initiative, which could raise at least £10,000.

Farmers who are unable to purchase pink wrap, but would like to support the campaign, can get hold of pink stickers which can be used on traditional black and green bales.

To get some stickers, email forage@volac.com which will send out some out in return for a donation.
