Open Farm Sunday organisers announce prep events

A series of nationwide events will take place over the next couple of months to help host farmers prepare for this year’s Open Farm Sunday.

Open Farm School days will also take place throughout June.

The events will aim to provide information and advice to both experienced and new host farmers to help them get the most out of the experience of opening their farms up to visitors.

There are three types of event to choose from:

  • Share Your Story events (new for 2016)
  • Information events
  • School Visit Workshops

Share Your Story events will feature host farmer speakers and also give farmers the opportunity to share their experiences and network with peers.

Information events will cover all aspects of putting on safe and engaging Open Farm Sunday events.

School Visit Workshops will also run to provide training for farmers who wish to host school visits.

All events are free of charge and open to all farmers. For more information visit the website www.farmsunday.org

Open Farm Sunday, which is organised by environment and farming charity Leaf (Linking Environment and Farming), invites farmers from all over the country to open their farms up to the public in order to showcase what they do. This year’s event will take place on 5 June.

Last year’s event boasted record numbers with 291,000 visitors turning up to 389 farms all over Britain – a 40% increase on 2014.

A fifth of the visitors had never even been to a farm before and the average number of attendees per event was 749. The events consistently attract local and national media attention.
