The NFU president was speaking at a meeting of industry leaders following the reappointment of Defra secretary Liz Truss on Monday (11 May).

In a show of strength to the new government, some 50 leaders from across the food and farming sectors gathered for the event at Smith Square, Westminster.

It was “imperative” that the government rolled out badger culling asap, said Mr Raymond, arguing that farmers were determined to see the disease defeated.

Animal welfare campaigners have pledged to continue their opposition to the cull, arguing that it is unscientific and unjustified.
