Dylan Thomas Boathouse turbine bid rejected

A livestock farmer has failed in his bid to erect a wind turbine opposite the iconic Dylan Thomas’ Boathouse in Carmarthenshire.

Charolais breeder Griff Morris had wanted to build the 45m-high turbine on his land at Mwche Farm, Llansteffan.

But the farm is on the banks of the river opposite the 19th century building where Welsh poet Dylan Thomas lived and worked in Laugharne, and Mr Morris’ application attracted outrage both locally and nationally.

Carmarthenshire County Council had given Mr Morris planning permission last June but campaigners lodged an appeal with the High Court, which quashed the council’s decision on Thursday (19 February).

The judicial review, held in Cardiff, found in favour of the campaigners and ordered the council to pay £21,275 in costs.
