50 firefighters tackle huge farm blaze

More than 50 firefighters have been battling a huge blaze on a farm in West Yorkshire.

Fire broke out on the farm in Crofton near Wakefield at 12.40am on (21 August), according to a spokesman for West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service.

The spokesman added that two barns, three HGV trailers, large stacks of straw and vegetation had been burnt.

One of the barns was large at 100mx40m and crews had been called in from across the brigade to tackle the fire.

The main A638 Doncaster Road in Crofton, also had to be shut in both directions causing delays for commuters at rush hour.

About 30 firefighters using 10 pumps, water carriers and six appliances were still at the farm at 8am on 21 August.
