Reader on the hunt for vintage Welco Hammermill

Malcolm Buckler is on the hunt for a Welco Hammermill. It was last produced in the 1950s by his late father, before the company started to manufacture Buckler sports cars.

The mill was designed to grind or mash a wide range of materials, from cereals to clover, to potatoes and bone meal, through a selection of perforated screens measuring 1-25mm.

Constructed from cast iron casing, with Welco stamped into it, there were 40 spinning heat-treated hammers flying around at 3,000-4,000 rpm. It required a modest 12-15hp, driven from any power source, although it best suited a tractor.

Outputs of up to 1.5t/hour were achievable, while a big fan blew the ground material into a twin bagging device.

Anyone with information to help Mr Buckler in his search should write to him at Fairy Oak, Regaby, Isle of Man IM7 3HN, or call him on 01624 880433.
