Yet another agricultural tyre manufacturer has entered the market for replacement rubber on tractors, sprayers and harvesters, as well as trailed equipment.

Maxam Tire is part of the Sailun Group in China, which produces passenger vehicle, truck and bus, and industrial tyres, including products for construction and agricultural applications.

The Maxam Tire business is already active in North America and, more recently, in Europe, and has secured distribution to farm tyre retailers in Britain through wholesaler Kirkby Tyres.

For tractors, Kirkby currently offers the Maxam AgriXtra and larger-volume AgriXtra XL traction radials with a good choice of sizes for 20in, 26in, 28in, 34in, 38in and 42in rims, mostly with “standard” 85% and lower-profile 70% sidewall aspect ratio.

There is also a limited number of 20in, 26in, 30in, 32in and 36in sizes, and at the top end, a choice of six widths from 460mm to 710mm for 42in rims that can be paired with corresponding front axle fitments.

Flexible sidewalls

Maxam currently produces just a single VF category traction tyre – the VF 600/70 R30 – with a tough but ultra-flexible sidewall structure designed to place a larger footprint than a standard tyre of the same size, but other sizes featuring this technology are likely to follow.

There is also a VF design in the AgriXtra N row-crop tyre line-up for self-propelled sprayers and the like; the VF 380/90 R46 is an alternative to the regular 90-section standard tyres for 30in, 46in and 50in rims.

Kirkby Tyres also lists half a dozen AgriXtra H heavy-duty 26in and 32in tyres in nominal widths from 620mm to 900mm for tractor and harvester applications, together with corresponding steering axle sizes.

All feature Maxam’s MS951R tread pattern comprising lugs angled at 45deg that widen at the inner end to place a little more rubber down the centre line and have a square-cut profile at the outer end.
