Historic tractor collection sells for over £500,000
The world’s most complete collection of Ferguson farm machinery has sold for more than £500,000 at an auction, which attracted interest from over 1,200 people.
Norfolk farmer Paul Rackham’s Hunday collection of 73 tractors, 100 implements and support vehicles, plus assorted memorabilia and literature went under the hammer on 14 November.
It follows the sale of the rest of his extensive vintage tractor collection earlier this year, which he sold for more than £1.5m.

Top seller on the day was a 1953 Land Rover Series 1, previously owned by Harry Ferguson Ltd, which made £36,000. This is believed to be a record for such a vehicle at auction.
A 1943 Ford 2N “Funk” V8 conversion also attracted strong interest, with telephone and online bidders competing to secure it. It eventually sold for £22,500.
Other notable machines included a tractor-mounted combine (below), which went for £8,600.
A Twose roller (below) was not far behind, selling for £7,800.
Memorabilia sold well too with a selection of Ferguson Brown literature selling for £800, Ferguson demonstration model going for £4,100 and a neon Ferguson dealer’s sign going for £2,200.
Spares were also hotly contested with £500 paid for a swinging drawbar and £520 for a Ferguson canvas cover.
The Hunday Collection was started by tractor collector John Moffat in 1966 and by the year 2000 he had amassed what is thought to be the largest gathering of vintage Ferguson-designed tractors in the world.
In 2004 he sold the collection to Mr Rackham, who moved it to his Norfolk farm and continued to add to it. After acting as curator for the past 12 years, Mr Rackham decided to sell the collection so that he can focus on a new challenge.
Attempts to sell the collection as a whole were unfortunately unsuccessful.
