Kuhn four-rotor rakes go high-tech with GPS section control

Kuhn has ramped up the level of technology offered on its high-capacity four-rotor rakes, adding features such as hydraulic drive, hydraulic suspension and GPS section control.

The updates apply to two models in the 10231 series – the GA 13231 and GA 15231 – which offer working widths from 8.4m to 14.7m.

By switching to a hydraulic rather than mechanical driveline, Kuhn says rotor speed is more consistent, operation is quieter and the machine has fewer moving parts to wear out.

Added to that, the front two rotors have a so-called “boost” feature that allows them to rotate 20% faster that the rears.

This gives a quicker transfer of crop to the centre of the implement which is claimed to create an airy and more uniform swath.

The move to hydraulic suspension is said to improve the rake’s contour-following abilities and make it possible to tweak settings on the go from the in-cab terminal to avoid any contamination.

For the first time, automatic section control has been introduced on the GA models, which should improve working accuracy, avoid the crop being moved twice and take pressure off the operator.

When engaged, this raises and lowers each of the rotors automatically, so that they are always put in and out of work at precisely the right point.

Further updates include a new isobus M500 module, which is more powerful and has greater capacity than the outgoing unit.

The operating software has also been redesigned to feature icons for individual functions.

Price for the GA 13231 starts at £88,485.
