Makita 40V brush cutter matches 35cc petrol output
Running on the firm’s most powerful 40V XGT battery packs, Makita’s UR013G cordless brush cutter promises to blitz through undergrowth as quickly as a 35cc petrol machine.
Delivering this output is a 1,500W brushless motor with a two-stage control that spins the head at speeds of up to 6,700rpm.
Cutting width is between 255-450mm, and it can be used with a range of heads, including a conventional line trimmer, plastic blades and metal discs.

Other features include “active feedback sensing technology”, which shuts the tool down if it detects the rotation speed suddenly slowing, as well as a grass tangle release function.
This temporarily spins the head in the opposite direction to clear any blockages.
Bike-type handles are fitted for comfortable operation during long cutting stints, and these are home to a multi-function control panel with LED indicator.
Price of the bare tool is about £410 online and kits including two 5Ah batteries and a charger are around £945. A loop-handle UR014G version is also available, which is priced at roughly £400 for the standalone tool.
Although 18V is the most common battery pack used on Makita tools, the firm now has 33 machines operating on the 40V XGT system.
