Cereals 2023: UTV-friendly Poacher Block protects farm gateways

Northumberland farmer John Goodfellow has unveiled another iteration of his novel Poacher Block.

The 4m-wide reinforced concrete barricade is designed to straddle a gateway, with its strategically positioned turrets allowing free passage for tractors but not for the 4x4s popular among the hare coursing community.

However, the original symmetrical design also limited access to all but the smallest ATVs, which has proved an inconvenience for farms using a UTV for game shoots or field recces.

To solve that problem, the middle turrets have been shifted off-centre and the outer ones slimmed down to increase the gap on one side from 1.2m to 1.65m, which will allow for a John Deere Gator or the like to slip through.

A single unit is priced at £525 including delivery; a set of five is £2,250.
