Isuzu has pimped up its D-Max pickup with two special edition models.

The first is the Steel, which adds more bling to the top-of-the-range V-Cross but is otherwise identical underneath.

Only 300 will be made – order books open 6 May – and they will be available in both six-speed manual (£38,495 ex VAT) and auto (£39,995) guise.

The few extra grand they cost covers posher 19in alloys and Steel Grey Mica paint over flared wheel arch fenders, rear arch extensions and the roof rails.

Also included are electric folding mirrors, a greyed-out front badge, embossed headrests atop leather seats, puddle lamps and a “luxury” carpet mat set.

It is propelled by the same 164hp, 1.9-litre engine as the run-of-the-mill versions, with shift-on-the-fly four-wheel drive and a rear diff-lock.

There’s no change on the carrying and carting front either, so it’s still good for a 1t payload and 3.5t towing capacity.

But, if doesn’t quite quell your taste for chintz, the Japanese manufacturer has also shown off the fruits of its latest collaboration with off-road vehicle souper-upper Arctic Trucks.

The hoofing great AT37 debuted at this week’s Commercial Vehicle Show and is apparently the biggest pickup Isuzu has ever built.

It dwarfs the standard D-Max by 140mm thanks to adjustable Bilstein performance suspension and monster 37in BFGoodrich KM3 Mud-Terrain tyres that sit below a reinforced frame.

There’s no word yet on output, but it’s assumed to be higher than that of the workaday models.
