Hereford reduction sale tops at 3,100gns

A reduction of the Mara herd of Herefords on behalf of Bob and Margaret Borwick, Preston Deanery, Northampton, last week (29 October) saw 30 lots net a total of £58,750 to average £1,958.25.

Cows and calves were in demand, with four-year old Mara Blossom 40th, along with her four-week-old bull calf, selling for 3,100gns to M Moore, County Tyrone.

Also at the same money was the seven-year-old Badlingham Blossom 155th and her four-week-old bull calf, which went to C McGrath, County Meath.

Making 3,000gns was Mara Bonny 38th with her three-week-old heifer calf, selling to F Harrington, County Roscommon.

In-calf cow Mara Bonny 40th sold for 2,600gns to D Dickinson, Mallowburn Herefords, Newcastle-upon-Tyne. Her seven-month-old heifer calf, Mara Bonny 45th, made 1,100gns when selling to Herefordshire Meats, Madley, Herefordshire.

In-calf heifers topped at 1,900gns for Mara Bonny 42nd, which was also purchased by D Dickinson.

Bulls sold to 2,700gns for four-year-old Mara Kestrel, selling to C McGrath, County Meath

Averages: 10 cows and calves, £2,730; Six in-calf heifers, £1,592.50; six maiden heifers, £1,277.50; five bulls, £1,501.50
