Suffolks sell to 25,000gns at Stirling sale

Suffolk rams realised a high of 25,000gns at Stirling last week (31 July), with 166 ram lambs sold and eight lambs making 10,000gns on a 68% clearance.

Commenting on the sale auctioneer George Purves from United Auctions said: “Stud sheep were keenly bid for throughout the sale and strong bidding on the top sheep carried on right to the end of the sale.”

The top price was paid for Myfyr Evans’ fourth prize open lamb A12:15:01287. This Ardlea Arbennig son is out of FZJ:L63, a Strathisla Speed daughter. He sold in a three way split to Gary Beacom, Lakeview, Highfield Farming, Knockem, and Pat Machray, Middlemuir.

The reserve champion lamb from Dennis Taylor’s Ballynacanon flock sold for the second top price of 18,000gns. This Mountford Mustang son, KKW:15:00629, stood champion ram lamb at Ballymena Show and his dam is a Birness Bacardi daughter. Gary McAdoo purchased this lamb for his Knockadoo flock in Northern Ireland.

At 14,000gns was Andrew Wilson’s champion lamb from the pre-sale show DDX:15:00933. Sired by Birness Murray he is out of a dam by the former sire of the year Cairness Liam. Buying this lamb were Mark Priestley, Limestone, James Innes, Strathbogie, and Joe Stewart, Gransha.

Stephen Sufferin sold two lambs at 13,000gns from his Crewelands pen, with the first being PWN:15:00468. This Birness Bravado son is out of a Burnview bred dam by Sannagh Resolve that was purchased for 3000gns. He stood first in the novice lamb class and went on to sell to Chris Holmes, Rookery.

Then PWN:15:00460 made the same money, also by Birness Bravado he is out of a dam by Forkins Ferrari II. He was second at the Northern Ireland championships and fourth ram lamb at Balmoral Show. He sold in a three way split to Messrs Campbell, Thrunton, Harry Annett, Widdrington, and Helen Goldie, Harpercoft.

Following that three lambs traded at 10,000gns, with the first to reach this price being A12:15:01270 from Myfyr Evans. By Rookery Best of the Best he is out of a Thurston Calzaghe sired ewe and was part of the winning pen of three. Patrick Donnelly bought this lamb for his Donrho flock, Ballymena.

Also making 10,000gns was the Mair family’s NAJ:15:00385, a Rhaeadr Red Devil son that was purchased by James Young, Muirton, Graeme Christie, Balquhain, Ross Lawrence, Roundacre, and Mary-Julia Cornish, Mardle. His dam is a Forkins Figo daughter and his granddam was sold at the Deveronside reduction sale for 4300gns to Strathisla.

James Cannon had the third lamb at this price, JKA:15:02297 is an Ardlea Atomic son out of a Lakeview Empire Strikes Back sired dam. He joins George Stuart’s Birness flock.

At 5500gns was Iain and Judith Barbour’s FHT:15:00994, a Solwaybank Solario son out of an Ewebank Cartier sired dam. He sold to Stewart Lathangie, Pyeston, and Ronald Black, Collessie.

Gordon Troup’s Scottish Area champion L25:15:00859 then sold at 5000gns to Jimmy Douglas, Cairness. This lamb stood third in the open class and was first and reserve male champion at the Royal Highland Show. Sired by Rhaeadr High Roller he is out of a dam by Cairness Diamond Jubilee.

Trading at 4500gns was FHT:15:01075, a Solwaybank Solario daughter from Iain and Judith Barbour and selling to Rob Holmes, Dunchideock, Exeter. He stood champion at the West and Central Club Show as well as second ram lamb at the Royal Highland Show. His dam is a Rhaeadr Rastafari daughter.

And James Young sold one of his Muirton lambs at 3800gns. This was K14:15:01217, a Solwaybank Pound Stretcher son out of a Deveronside Mountroyal sired dam. Buying him were Mike Davies and Sons, Safaddan.
