First pour-on anti-inflammatory drug available for cattle

Cattle with respiratory disease can now be treated using a new pour-on non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), mitigating the need for needles and syringes and preventing needle site lesions.

Finadyne Transdermal from MSD Animal Health is the only non-parasiticide cattle product currently available as a pour-on.

After applying to the skin, Finadyne can work as quickly as two hours after treatment, explains Martin Behr, technical manager at MSD Animal Health.

“Cattle producers will no longer have to struggle with the difficulty of injecting cattle showing signs of pneumonia. In addition, use of a pour-on NSAID means no needle-site lesions that can reduce the value of a carcass or compromise hide quality.”

The pour-on comes in pre-calibrated packaging and requires a prescription from a vet.
