Beltex leads Borderway sheep sale
The Kingledores flock led trade at the Beltex Beauties sale at Borderway Mart last week (26 August), selling to 10,000gns.
Star of the sale for Richard Wood was his shearling gimmer Kingledores Arienne, sired by Airyolland Storm Trooper and out of the Clary Prankster daughter Kingledores Sari.
She was the pick of A Neachell & Sons, Walsall, West Midlands.
Next best and selling for 7,500gns was Neal and Janet McQuiston’s shearling gimmer Airyolland Andromeda by Dooley Napal and out of the flock’s show gimmer Airyolland Pride. Buyer was D Costelloe, Market Drayton, Shropshire.
Two lots then made 7,000gns. First of these was Woodies All Meat from Stuart Wood. This Clary Prankster daughter won Beltex breed and interbreed champion at the Echt Show and is out of Woodies Ray of Hope. She went to Bala’s Robert Jones.
At the same money was Wade and Alison McCrabbe’s Ardstewart Attractive Lady by Rathbone Tony. She also travelled to Wales, this time with M Owens, Llandysul Dyfed.

Then Neal and Janet were back in the bidding, taking a 6,500gns call for their shearling gimmer Airyolland As Easy As, bred by their homebred ram Airyolland Watchman and out of the Dooley Napal daughter Airyolland Rihanna. This one was the pick of P Tippetts, Shifnal, Shropshire.
Next came two 6,000gns bids. Both of these went to two gimmers by Rathbone Tony from the Ardstewart flock.
The first was knocked down in a half share to Nail Caul and S and A Moore, both from Angus, and the second went to S Word, Westhill, Aberdeenshire.
Berrichons
On the same day the Berrichon show and sale saw the female and supreme champion lead the day’s trade at 1,900gns.
This single-born shearling gimmer from Tom Stayt, Oxfordshire, is by the 2014 Three Counties Show champion Sauchie Macho Man and is no stranger to the show ring herself, having won reserve at the Great Yorkshire Show this year. Buyer was Marshland Berrichons, St Clears, Carmarthenshire.
The reserve champion female from Messrs Cockbain & Sons, Keswick, Cumbria, made 1,000gns when selling to RA Davenport, Sandbach, Cheshire. This one was by Criffel Lion Heart and out of a homebred ewe.
Also selling for 1,000gns and leading male trade was the male and reserve supreme champion Windrush Ringmaster from Windrush Farming Partnerships, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire.
Sired by Headlands, he is out of out of a Statesman ewe and won first prize ram lamb at the Great Yorkshire Show this year.
Buyer was RJ Bett, Louth, Lincolnshire.
Dorset and Charollais
Trade topped at 1,900gns in the Dorset ring for the female and overall champion from DW Rossiter, Kindgbridge, Devon. Sired by Huish Nugget, this shearling gimmer sold to TW Holland, Bleanporth, Cardigan, having been served to Downkillybegs Unique U62.
Dorset rams peaked at 1,000gns for the third prize, a homebred ram lamb from Thomas Wright, Ballymoney, County Antrim.
Meanwhile, Charollais rams peaked at 950gns for Thackwood 15GU02156, a Loanhead Nailer shearling ram from Messrs Wales, Carlisle. Buyer was JA and AV Herbert, Barnard Castle, County Durham
