Is ‘Dino’ the biggest lamb of 2016?
A Suffolk Mule ram lamb tipping the scales at a whopping 8.5kg has been born in Dorset.
The lamb, christened “Dino”, was born near Wimborne – and is the largest ever seen by farmers John and Karen Wood.
“We knew he was big, but it was only when we put him next to an ordinary lamb that we realised quite how big,” said John.
“When we put a photo on Facebook, no one could believe it at first.”
The pair got in touch with Farmers Weekly after reading about Titch, the 7.7kg Cheviot-cross Beltex newborn in Warwickshire.
“But we smashed that.”
“We’ve had a few big lambs this year, including several about 7kg, but nothing as big as this one. Amazingly, the ewe lambed all by itself,” added John.
The picture shows the Woods’ son, Joseph, with Dino and their nephew, Ben, holding a smaller lamb for comparison.
