Photo of the Week: Morning quad-bike yoga with Mr Chase

This week’s photo is of collie dog Chase – or Mr Chase, as Amba Pattison, who sent the photo in, calls him.

Mr Chase was out with Amba doing the lambing/shepherding rounds.

He’s so helpful, it looks like he’s ready to drive the quad bike not just the sheep.

Chase is both a working dog and family pet – being a Welsh bobtail and Border Collie cross, he’s a rather unusual character.

Amba says: “He’s a lovely natured dog, good at driving sheep and, when not working, he enjoys coming on runs and walks with me.”

Amba and her fiancé, Mike Swerling, run a mixed farm near South Molton, North Devon.

They moved to the farm in April 2024, and run a 300 North Country Mule and Suffolk cross North Country Mule flock of breeding ewes and 20 Angus beef cattle.

It is the first lambing on the farm, and both the February lambing and April lambing have gone well.

Amba says: “The weather has been kind and we have a good percentage of lambs. We only have six left to lamb.”

The farm is predominantly grass with a small acreage of cereal crops for feeding; they hope to expand the livestock enterprise next year.

To boost the farm’s income the hard-working pair work off-farm too. We wish them, and Mr Chase, every luck for the future.
