Pork trumps whisky on China export value

The value of pork and breeding pig exports to China has beaten that of Scotch whisky.

Pork, offal and breeding stock worth just under £60m were sent in 2014 compared with whisky exports valued at £53.6m.

Chinese officials will visit the UK shortly as Bpex plans to increase the range and quantity of pork products that can be exported from the UK to China.

There were substantial niche markets for products such as bacon and pork pies, said Bpex.
